Get Involved
Since 1985, many volunteers have walked through the doors of Family House. We truly appreciate all of our volunteers for their time, talent, energy, and dedication to our mission.
Our volunteers help make the house feel like home away from home. From preparing a warm home-cooked meal to keeping the house clean and organized, and most of all, just listening to them tell their story.
Many of our volunteers will have the opportunity to serve the families staying here directly, which will allow you to connect with them. That is what makes volunteering at Family House rewarding and memorable.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to volunteer at Family House and make a difference in the lives of the families staying here.
Meals: Prepare a meal in our kitchen, drop off meals, baked goods, snacks, or cater in.
Yard Work: Help care for our home and yard.
Pantry: Conduct a “Fill the Pantry” drive or donate snacks and household items.
Events: Volunteer at our fundraising events.
Front Desk: Answer phones, assist guests with daily needs, work on projects, help with laundry, give tours, greet guests and visitors, and perform other front desk duties.
Housekeeping: Help housekeepers clean guests’ rooms, do laundry, and perform other cleaning tasks.
Committee: Serve on a Family House committee.
Mail: Make cards or write letters to the guests. Draw a picture to put on the guest’s door.
Maintenance: Paint, fix leaks, make minor repairs, and keep the house in good working order.

Heart of the House Meal Program
The Heart of the House Meal Program provides a way to extend care and comfort to our families who appreciate a nutritious home-cooked meal before or after a long day at the hospital.
Home-cooked meals keep the families from having to go to restaurants, eating out the vending machines at the hospitals, having to cook after being at the hospital all day, and it gives the family time to sit down together and get some family time.
To provide a meal, please complete the form below and/or call Melissa at 309.685.5300.
There are several ways to provide a meal.
*Cook a meal with your group in our kitchen.
*Drop off a meal or have it delivered to Family House.
Ask restaurants if they can prepare individually packaged meals. Many offer this as an option.
The Family House staff will be able to confirm current occupancy to recommend the amount of food to donate.
*Make a donation for the purpose of a meal.

A donation of $150 can provide our families with one meal.
*Provide gift cards to help feed our guests.
